Jonathan Cooper,
Associate Band Director
Jonathan Cooper is in his 5th year of teaching and 1st as the Associate Director of Bands at R. L. Paschal High School, where he conducts the Wind Symphony, and co-directs Jazz Ensemble II and the Panther Marching Band.
Previously, Mr. Cooper taught at J. P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs, Florida, where he conducted the concert bands, jazz band, and marching band programs. Bands under his direction have earned top ratings at Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessments. During his tenure, bands at JPT grew in skill and size. Numerous students have continued their studies in music for performance and education at various major universities in Florida.
Mr. Cooper is a graduate of the Florida State University College of Music with a Bachelor’s in Music Education, Magna Cum Laude. As a student there, Mr. Cooper was a member of the Trumpet Studio, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Swing Machine Jazz Band, Seminole Sound, and the Marching Chiefs. Additionally, he has served as a Row Leader and Section Leader for the trumpet section for three years. Mr. Cooper studied under Rebecca Walenz, Julia Bell, and Dr. Christopher Moore.
Mr. Cooper is a proud alumnus of Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, marching trumpet in the Summer of 2019 and contributing to a Jim Ott High Brass Award.
Prior to his graduation, Mr. Cooper completed his student teaching internship at Vero Beach High School teaching the concert, jazz, and percussion classes.
Outside of teaching band, Mr. Cooper enjoys cycling, golf, and playing with his orange tabby cat, Callie.
Mr. Cooper’s Professional Affiliations include TMEA, FMEA, FBA, NAfME and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
